Apple is rumored to have been working on smart glasses for a couple of years now. Finally, on Tuesday, the details about the AR glasses were revealed, and it was mentioned that these might be called the Apple Glass.
Apple Glass is slated to pair up with the iPhone and get controlled by gestures in front of and on the glasses, according to the statement of the ones who have seen the video of a prototype pair. Both the lenses will allegedly come with displays, and a Lidar sensor will also be included in the frames. It was also added that the Apple Glass is supposed to look a lot like a regular pair of glasses, and there won’t be any cameras fitted to it.
Apple Glasses will be reportedly priced at $499, along with the additional cost of the prescription lenses. Apple had originally planned to surprise the users by revealing the smart glass as ‘one more thing’ during the next launch of the iPhone. However, the announcement has now been pushed to 2021.
Tim Cook, the Apple CEO, has mentioned that the company is gearing up for a major unveiling in the domain of augmented reality. He said that it is going to be a technology that is as significant as the iPhone. During the first half of this month, Apple introduced NextVR, the VR streaming company. This venture is known for having partnerships with the Wimbledon and NBA for streaming live sports to the headsets of the people at home.
Apple is said to be also working on wireless headsets for both VR and AR. Even these headsets were supposed to be released during this year. However, the ongoing issues with supply chains have slowed down manufacturing for tech giants like Samsung and Apple.
